Another hit by Mr. Thornhill! I love reading about Walt's adventures. The shaved dog assignment Ox and Walt got assigned to was so funny. I wish I could have been with them at the Melting Pot. That would have been worth seeing. Mr. Thornhill has once again hit some real life problems that I agree with. That Willie is one tough dude. I wouldn't want to cross him. The book has lots of twists and turns. I had a very hard time putting the book down. You can't go wrong reading The Lady Justice series. Looking forward to Walt and the Gang's next adventure. Thanks again Mr. Thornhill for another amazing read.

Lady Justice and the Assassin by Robert Thornhill is number 13 in Thornhill’s Lady Justice series of humorous mysteries. Like its predecessors, Lady Justice and the Assassin has a plot ripped from today’s headlines. The several sub-plots are blended perfectly within the main theme, which is a conspiracy to assassinate the President of the United States AND the Vice President, while they both are making public presentations half a continent apart from one another. The pretext for the assassinations could not be more plausible. In fact, I would be VERY surprised if Robert Thornhill has not made himself a focus of federal investigation for detailing so much legitimate-sounding preparation for an assassination attempt. If not for the insertion of several comical sub-plots, one might very well be excused for wondering if this was an actual conspiracy gone awry.
Lady Justice and the Assassin is flawlessly executed. As with its precursors, one cannot help but believe this story could be an actual account of the daily extremes faced by police officers everywhere. Thornhill writes as if his primary reference is his daily police log. It is hard to conceive of anyone actually making up this stuff! It is just too authentic feeling to be pure fiction. Yet, in spite of the severity of the main plot, the story is extraordinarily entertaining and humorous… too much so to NOT be fiction. Thornhill deservedly has been recognized multiple times for his Lady Justice series. Lady Justice and the Assassin seems likely to garner yet another award for this brilliantly talented author. If you are new to this series, and enjoy humor mixed with mystery, I urge you to not wait another minute; buy this book and prepare to become an avid fan of Robert Thornhill.

Robert Thornhill hits it once again with controversial and serious topics.

Walt's first assignment is to catch a person who is shaving the fur off of pure-breed dogs. He also has to save one of his friends as two opposing gangs are at war, and he faces one of his most challenging cases of his career; to protect the President of the United States. To Walt's surprise, he finds himself trying to stop an assassin who is determined to kill the president at any cost.

Robert Thornhill is an Author to watch. He knows how to blend humor and serious topics together to create the perfect all night read.

No one can accuse author Robert Thornhill of not being relevant. The newest mystery comedy in the Walt Williams series, Lady Justice and the Assassin, mixes the topical concerns of a still sluggish economy; the middle class being driven into poverty; and the perceived trampling of civil liberties, in particular those protected by the 2nd Amendment, by combining the forces of the Ozark Militia and the Neo-Nazi followers of the Aryan Brotherhood Confederation to hatch a plot to assassinate the President and Vice-President.
This joint group chooses a man who has lost his job due to outsourcing and is facing the total loss of all his material gains, who has to send his wife and son to live with her parents while he sorts through the household goods of what to keep and what to sell before the home is lost to foreclosure, who is now hounded by collection agencies, has no health insurance, and is sitting in a cold home where the utilities have been cut-off. This man, normally a patriotic American who never even had a speeding ticket, is presented the opportunity to reclaim all his possessions and set his family onto the path of solvency by doing just one small task for the alliance: shoot the President. Will he do it?
Additionally, Walt and his partner, Ox, deal with daily crime and life in Kansas City, MO: recruitment for members in the Vipers, a vicious gang operating in NE Kansas City, and the strange shaving of pedigree dogs left home by their owners. The mysterious “shaving” case makes for comic relief in a book filled with too real-to-life situations. Unless, or course, your pooch is the one that has been shaved! (Just where did Thornhill get this idea??)
The combination of these simultaneous cases makes for fun reading. This book has all the old stand-by characters: Maggie and Judy, the wives of Walt and Ox; Walt's dad and his girlfriend, Bernice; Mary, the manager with a ball bat of the flop house owned by Walt; Jerry the Joker; Louie the Lip, a gangster you want as a friend rather than an enemy; and Willie, his pimp-turned maintenance man who has saved Walt on more than one occasion. Fast-paced, the reader will find himself racing through the pages to see how Walt and his friends once again bring down all the bad people and restore justice to their corner of the world.

The current dysfunctional political and economic conditions in the United States provide a backdrop for the story. In Philadelphia homes are being broken into and show dogs are being shaved. Two police officers are assigned the case. Meanwhile a plot is hatched to assassinate both the president and vice-president so that the office will go to the Speaker of the House. This was a free down-load.

I have read and enjoyed all of Robert Thornhill's Lady Justice series. This newest installment, Lady Justice and the Assassin, is every bit as good. I was glad to see Willie and even Louie the lip assisting Walt. Another wonderful, humorous and thought provoking story.

Robert Thornhill's group of older crime fighters is a fun romp with a lot of twists and turns, and a bad guy who just can't win. He gives new meaning to the phrase, "Without bad luck, he'd have no luck at all." Empowering, satisfying and surprising. This series is very appealing to those of us past 50 (long past for me). What fun.

I really enjoyed this book. I have been seeing the Lady Justice series on goodreads, but this is the first one I have read. I was pleasantly surprised. Walt makes a good leading man. I like his relationships with his wife and his friends. It is refreshing to read about someone who has his life together. The plot about the assassination attempt on the president seemed plausible, although the battle with the gang members seemed a little far fetched to me. I liked the touches of humor in the book, and the way that it made me think about political issues. I am definitely going to read more from this author.

One of my favorite authors! May 24, 2013
I became acquainted with author Robert Thornhill's Lady Justice series on the goodreads.com website when I was selected to receive a free copy of volume 1. I read it, liked it, and now own every volume in the series. Robert has a way of combining mystery, comedy and a variety of social issues in a very readable format. Congrats Bob on another winner! My husband has also read the entire series and as usual are eagerly awaiting the next volume.

The author, Robert Thornhill provides all the elements to enjoy when you pick up one of his books in the Lady Justice Mystery/Comedy series. You get to laugh and enjoy the mystery, excitement, and suspense as he draws you into the plot each and every time. In this one, you'll be amazed how much you find yourself fighting for the underdog, Henry Martin.
